Outfielder Aaron Judge joined elite company on Saturday, hitting his 33rd home run before the MLB all-star break to tie legend Roger Maris for the New York Yankees franchise record.
Sitting at 31 heading into the Yankees' contest against the Boston Red Sox, Judge went deep in both the fifth and sixth innings .
The record has been standing for 61 years as Maris set the mark during his 1961 AL MVP campaign — a year in which he hit 61 home runs, breaking Babe Ruth's all-time single season record.
No player has reached the 60-home run mark in a season since Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa in 2001.
Judge will have one more chance to push past Maris and claim the record for himself with the Yankees set play the Red Sox once again on Sunday to close out a three-game series.
