Seattle Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo will start the playoff opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday at Rogers Centre, manager Scott Servais said on Thursday.
Servais said the tentative plan is for former Blue Jay Robbie Ray to start Game 2 with Logan Gilbert for Game 3.
Alek Manoah has been confirmed as Toronto's starter for Game 1. The team has not named starters for Games 2 or 3.
Castillo, 29, was named to the National League All-Star team for the second time in his career this year while a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
Castillo was acquired at the trade deadline by the Mariners and then signed a five-year, $108-million extension last month.
The Dominican righty was 8-6 with a 2.99 ERA this year. He was 4-2 with a 3.17 ERA in 11 starts for Seattle.
Castillo faced the Jays at Rogers Centre while with the Reds in May, taking the loss in a 2-1 defeat. He gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings.
