Monday’s game between the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics has been postponed due to contact tracing within the Twins organization. The game is tentatively scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
MLB postponed two games between the Twins and Los Angeles Angels on Saturday and Sunday due to contact tracing. Three Twins players — including Andrelton Simmons and Kyle Garlick — and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Simmons did not travel with the team on its current road trip as a result.
“It’s a difficult time, and we all know the timelines on these things,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Saturday. “If someone had been exposed, (the results) are not necessarily immediate. We’re going to return to the hotel and we’re going to await further instructions.”
Baldelli added that those infected had “very minor symptoms … just mild fatigue, headache, scratchy throat, all that.”
The Washington Nationals had four games postponed due to COVID-19 issues on the roster earlier in the season. MLB has yet to announce new dates for the two postponed games between the Twins and Angels.
