The New York Yankees announced that outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list, making him available for play ahead of Monday night's series opener against the MLB-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
This would be Stanton's first return to action in over a month as he hasn't played since straining his left hamstring while running the bases on June 22. This trip to the injured list marked the eighth time in six years for the 34-year-old.
Stanton has suited up in 69 games for the Yankees this season — none in the field — and is hitting .246 with 18 homers and 45 RBIs.
If Stanton returns to the lineup on Monday night, he will have missed 29 games. He missed 266 of 708 games in the past five seasons (38 per cent).
The impending move will send utility player Jahmai Jones to be designated for assignment. The 26-year-old had been hitting .238 with one home run and four RBI in 47 plate appearances with New York this season.
