With his team coming off a loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, Boston Red Sox right-hander Nick Pivetta took matters into his own hands.
On Thursday, the Canadian notched eight consecutive strikeouts in Boston's series opener against the Detroit Tigers. He whiffed Matt Vierling to end the top of the third inning for strikeout No. 8.
Pievetta t tied Roger Clemens for the franchise record of most strikeouts in a row.
However, this isn't the only accomplishment the 31-year-old has secured recently.
On Saturday, the Victoria native joined Fergie Jenkins, Ryan Dempster, Erik Bedard, John Hiller and Kirk McCaskill as the only Canadian pitchers to strike out 1,000 hitters in the major leagues.
Pitching in his eighth MLB season, Pivetta has found his form, entering play Thursday with a 3.71 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 34 innings. However, he has missed time this campaign after going on the 15-day injured list at the beginning of April.
