There remain no plans to get Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage into spring training games, manager John Schneider told reporters on Sunday, per Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.
The 22-year-old is “building up” to get into Grapefruit League play, Nicholson-Smith added.
As reported by Nicholson-Smith last week, the Blue Jays are easing Yesavage into his first full season in the Majors after a rookie campaign that saw him shoot up from Single-A Dunedin all the way to logging 139.2 total innings in MLB, including 27.2 during Toronto’s post-season run.
In other Blue Jays news, Max Scherzer is expected to make his next spring start on March 14.
Scherzer, who recently announced his return to the Blue Jays after a positive 2025 experience with the club, recorded a scoreless outing over four innings Saturday.
The 41-year-old and three-time Cy Young winner first joined the Blue Jays via free agency ahead of last season and then opted to return to the franchise for a second stint, agreeing to a one-year, $3-million deal.
Scherzer made 17 appearances for Toronto in 2025 and held a 5.19 ERA with 82 strikeouts, 23 walks and 87 hits allowed. He also made three starts in the post-season as part of the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series.
Toronto's upcoming pitching plans for spring training also include Dylan Cease taking the mound on Tuesday, Eric Lauer on Wednesday, Jose Berrios on Thursday and Cody Ponce on Friday.
The Blue Jays play split-squad games against the Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers on Sunday. You can catch the Tigers game at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
