PHILADELPHIA — Kyle Schwarber hit his eighth leadoff homer of the season, All-Star reliever Matt Strahm struck out two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani in the seventh inning to preserve the lead and Philadelphia won again without Bryce Harper, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Phillies won the first two games of the three-game set in a showdown of two NL division leaders. The Phillies continued to build on the best record in baseball and hit 60 wins. At 60-32, only the 1976 team (in 88 games) reached that mark faster in a season in franchise history.
The Phillies again beat Ohtani and the NL West leaders without Harper, out this time with a bruised left hand. Harper had missed the previous nine games with a strained left hamstring until he returned for Tuesday’s 10-1 win. A two-time NL MVP, Harper was hurt at an unspecified point, though he clearly grabbed his hand and hunched over in pain on a second-inning chopper by Miguel Rojas.
METS 6, NATIONALS 2
NEW YORK — Jose Iglesias had three more hits, including a two-run single that snapped a sixth-inning tie and vaulted the New York Mets over the Washington Nationals 6-2 on Wednesday night.
Brandon Nimmo homered for a career-best third straight game and Mark Vientos hit a tying double as the Mets (46-45) won for the 10th time in their last 12 at home. New York was 11 games under .500 on June 2.
Luis Severino (6-3) pitched effectively into the seventh inning and a struggling bullpen came through, with three relievers combining to allow one hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
José Buttó retired all four batters he faced, striking out two, for his first career save. Buttó became the eighth Mets pitcher to earn a save this season.
MARINERS 2, PADRES 0
SAN DIEGO — Bryce Miller threw six innings to extend his mastery over NL opponents, Julio Rodriguez made a stellar defensive play and Seattle beat San Diego Padres.
Jorge Polanco factored in both runs to help the AL West-leading Mariners sweep the two-game series and hand the Padres their fourth straight loss.
Miller (7-7) is 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA in six starts against NL opponents. The right-hander went at least six innings without allowing a run for the fourth time this season.
Rodríguez struck out four times after having four hits and a home run Tuesday night in a 8-3 victory. The dynamic center fielder made the defensive play of the game in the second inning when he threw out Donovan Solano at home trying to score on Ha-Seong Kim’s fly ball.
CUBS 4, ORIOLES 0
BALTIMORE — Shota Imanaga outdueled Corbin Burnes in a matchup of All-Star pitchers, and Christopher Morel homered to help the Chicago Cubs beat Baltimore.
Imanaga (8-2) allowed six hits over six innings, striking out six with one walk. The Orioles went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position against the left-hander.
Imanaga is the first Cubs rookie to be selected to play in the All-Star Game since Kris Bryant in 2015 and the first Japanese-born Cub to make the team since Kosuke Fukudome in 2018.
Burnes (9-4) gave up three runs and nine hits over six innings, walking none and striking out five. Next week he will be heading to Texas for his fourth All-Star Game, the first with Baltimore.
WHITE SOX 3, TWINS 1, 1ST GAME

CHICAGO (AP) — Brooks Lee and Carlos Correa hit consecutive homers and Ryan Jeffers added the go-ahead RBI as the Minnesota split a doubleheader with Chicago.
Jeffers brought home Byron Buxton in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and give the Twins the lead for good. They’ve won nine of 10 against their AL Central rivals this season.
Martín Maldonado homered for Chicago, which won the opener 3-1 to end a three-game skid.
The Twins erased a two-run deficit in the sixth inning when Lee homered off his former Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo teammate Drew Thorpe five pitches before All-Star Correa extended his hitting streak to a dozen games with a blast deep into the right-field seats.
Jeffers singled off Michael Soroka (0-10) an inning later to bring home Byron Buxton. Steven Okert (3-0), the first of four Twins relievers, got the win. Jhoan Duran picked up his 14th save after working the ninth.
TIGERS 5, GUARDIANS 4
DETROIT (AP) — Matt Vierling hit a home run and drove in three and Detroit beat Cleveland.
Reese Olson (4-8) improved to 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA in his past five starts, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings as Detroit won for the fifth time in six games.
The Tigers led 5-3 going into the ninth, but Alex Faedo issued two walks and had a wild pitch to start the inning, putting the tying runs in scoring position.
Andrés Giménez made it 5-4 with a sacrifice fly, with Gabriel Arias taking third. Jason Foley replaced Faedo and got Tyler Freeman to hit a grounder to first. Gio Urshela threw Arias out at the plate with Freeman taking second during the rundown.
Brayan Rocchio was intentionally walked and Foley’s wild pitch moved the runners to second and third before he retired Austin Hedges on a grounder for his 15th save.
YANKEES 2, RAYS 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Trent Grisham drove in two runs and made a nice running catch in center field to help the struggling New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay for only their seventh victory in 24 games.
Relievers Tim Hill (3-0) and Luke Weaver each worked out of jams to protect a one-run lead, and All-Star closer Clay Holmes came on to bail out the Yankees from yet another tight spot in the eighth inning as the Rays finished 0 for 10 with runners in scoring positions and stranded 12 men on base.
Holmes got his 25th save and first since June 9 after blowing a pair of chances. Yankees pitchers had allowed home runs in their seven previous games and 18 of 19.
ROCKIES 6, REDS 5
CINCINNATI (AP) — Sam Hilliard homered twice, his first homers since last April, and Kyle Freeland had a season-high nine strikeouts, and Colorado held on to beat Cincinnati.
Freeland (1-3) has given up two or fewer earned runs in four straight starts, allowing two runs and eight hits with one walk in 6 2/3 innings.
Hilliard hit a two-run home run in the third and a solo shot in the fifth for his third career multi-homer game, first since April 24, 2023, when he homered twice against Miami while with the Braves.
Jonathan India, the Reds’ designated hitter after missing Tuesday’s game with a bruised knee, hit a solo homer in the third to make the score 3-1. It was his seventh home run.

BOSTON (AP) — Lawrence Butler hit a two-run double to back a solid outing from JP Sears as Oakland beat Boston.
Oakland improved to 1-4 this season against the Red Sox, who had won seven of eight overall.
Nick Pivetta (4-6) took the loss despite striking out eight consecutive batters, tying a Red Sox record for the second time. He also fanned eight straight Detroit Tigers on May 30.
The only other Red Sox pitcher to accomplish the feat was Roger Clemens, when he whiffed a record 20 total hitters against Seattle on April 29, 1986.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Salvador Perez homered in both games and MJ Melendez added a solo shot in the nightcap to help Kansas City beat St. Louis for a sweep of the day-night doubleheader Wednesday.
Kansas City took the opener 6-4. The Royals have won three in a row to improve to 51-43 — a season after winning just 56 games
Michael Wacha (6-6) went five innings for the victory in the second game. He pitched seven seasons in St. Louis (2013-2019) and was the MVP of the 2013 NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lars Nootbaar homered for the St. Louis in the second game to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the second.
Closer James McArthur picked up his 17th save of the season and second of the day.
ASTROS 9, MARLINS 1
HOUSTON (AP) — Framber Valdez struck out a season-high 10 and allowed one run in seven innings, and rookie Joey Loperfido homered and tripled to lead Houston over Miami.
Valdez (8-5) allowed just six singles and earned his third straight win.
Loperfido hit a two-run homer as the Astros jumped on Bryan Hoeing (0-2) for four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. His first career triple came in the fourth inning.
The win was the eighth straight at home for the Astros, who have won eight of their last 11 games overall to improve to 48-44.
Rookie Xavier Edwards had two hits and drove in Miami’s only run.
BREWERS 9, PIRATES 0
MILWAUKEE — Tobias Myers pitched eight scoreless innings, Rhys Hoskins and Willy Adames hit home runs, and Milwaukee cruised past Pittsburgh.
Myers (6-3) didn’t allow a hit until Bryan Reynolds’ leadoff single in the fourth. The rookie right-hander gave up four hits, struck out six, walked one and threw 103 pitches in his 13th start.
The NL Central-leading Brewers scored twice in the first off Martín Pérez (1-5) on two-out, run-scoring hits by Adames and Sal Frelick.
William Contreras’ double in the fourth drove in two more to extend the lead to 4-0. Hoskins’ 417-foot blast into the second deck in left in the fifth gave Milwaukee a 5-0 advantage. The Brewers added another run in the seventh on Andruw Monasterio’s RBI single.
BLUE JAYS 10, GIANTS 6
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Ernie Clement hit a three-run homer for the second straight night and had an RBI single in Toronto’s six-run sixth inning, and the Blue Jays beat San Francisco.
Clement and Alejandro Kirk each had three hits, and George Springer drove in three runs as Toronto had its highest scoring total since a 14-11 loss at Detroit on May 26.
Patrick Bailey and Matt Chapman hit back-to-back homers in the ninth for San Francisco.
Chris Bassitt (8-7) grinded through five innings, allowing three runs and five hits with six strikeouts and four walks to win for the fifth time in his last six decisions.
Giants All-Star Logan Webb (7-7) was charged with seven earned runs, matching a career high. He gave up eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five-plus innings, snapping a streak of 11 straight starts of at least six innings.
ANGELS 7, RANGERS 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mickey Moniak and Zach Neto both homered and drove in three runs as the Los Angeles Angels ended Texas’ season-best five-game winning streak with a victory.
Neto finished a triple short of the cycle for the Angels, who had lost four in a row and eight of nine. He combined with Moniak to give Los Angeles five hits and three runs from the bottom two batters in the lineup.
Moniak, the No. 9 hitter, launched a three-run homer to make it 4-0 in the second inning. Neto added an RBI double in the third and a two-run homer in the eighth, his 12th of the year.
DIAMONDBACKS 7, BRAVES 5
PHOENIX (AP) — Eugenio Suárez had a homer, double and three RBIs, Geraldo Perdomo added three hits and a stellar defensive play in the ninth inning, and Arizona outlasted Atlanta.
The Diamondbacks beat the Braves for the first time this season after Atlanta won the first five meetings.
Paul Sewald worked the ninth for his 12th save of the season, breaking a streak of three blown saves. He was helped by Perdomo, with the shortstop diving to his right for a grounder before jumping to his feet and throwing to first to get Travis d’Arnaud for the first out.
With the score tied at 5, Corbin Carroll led off the eighth with a double into the right-center gap off Joe Jiménez (1-3) . Ketel Marte moved him to third with an infield single, Joc Pederson was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Christian Walker drew a full-count walk to give Arizona the lead. Perdomo added a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5.
