The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed right-handed pitcher Thomas Hatch off outright waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hatch was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Friday as part of a series of roster moves that added infielder Davis Schneider to the major league roster.
The 28-year-old has pitched in part of the last four seasons with Toronto, posting a 5.40 ERA over 46.2 career innings with the team. In 2023, he appeared in six games with a 4.26 ERA and 10 strikeouts.
The Blue Jays acquired Hatch in July 2019 as part of a trade that sent David Phelps to the Chicago Cubs.
The Pirates currently sit in fourth place in the NL Central with a 50-61 record. Their pitching staff entered Sunday ranked 22nd in MLB with a 4.56 ERA.
