Joe Boyle is returning to the Tampa Bay Rays — and he'll be the relative veteran on the mound on Monday.
The 26-year-old, who has made a total of 26 career MLB appearances, was recalled by the Rays for a Monday home start against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced.
Boyle lines up against Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage, who will be making his MLB debut.
In a corresponding move, the Rays optioned right-hander Garrett Acton back to triple-A Durham.
Boyle is set for his first start since Aug. 21, when he coughed up six runs (five earned), nine hits and three walks over four innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. In 10 games (six starts) this season, Boyle holds a 5.40 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.
Tampa Bay (73-76) sits fourth in the AL East, 14 games behind the division-leading Blue Jays (87-62). The Rays also trail the Houston Astros by 5.5 games for the final AL wild-card spot, with three teams in between.
