Canada's MLB contingent is growing by one.
The Tampa Bay Rays recalled 25-year-old outfielder Tristan Peters from triple-A Durham on Friday, calling on the Winkler, Man., native to take the spot of Jonny DeLuca, who went on the 10-day injured list.
Peters will join the Rays for a West Coast swing, as Tampa Bay embarks on a nine-game road trip that will take it through Seattle, Sacramento and San Francisco.
Drafted out of Southern Illinois University Carbondale in the seventh round by Milwaukee in 2021, Peters has starred at triple-A this season. The six-foot outfielder owns a .282/.370/.453 slash line, 11 home runs and 11 stolen bases through 105 games for the Bulls.
In addition to excelling at the plate, Peters has consistently made highlight-reel grabs in centre field with Durham. Meanwhile, the left-handed hitter also brings some extra versatility, having spent time at all three outfield spots in 2025.
After being initially drafted by the Brewers in 2021, Peters has been traded twice. First, from Milwaukee to San Francisco in exchange for reliever Trevor Rosenthal in 2022, and then from the Giants to Tampa Bay for infielder Brett Wisely later that off-season.
Peters will become the 20th Canadian-born player to appear in an MLB game in 2025 once he makes his big-league debut.
