The Boston Red Sox have added a bullpen arm as Opening Day draws closer.
Boston announced Thursday that it has agreed to terms on a one-year, major-league deal with left-hander reliever Danny Coulombe.
To make room on their 40-man roster, the Red Sox placed utilityman Romy Gonzalez on the 60-day injured list.
Coulombe has been one of baseball's most reliable left-handed relievers in recent years. Over the past five seasons, he owns a 2.64 ERA in 170.2 innings of work.
The 36-year-old split time between the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers in 2025, carrying a 2.30 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 43 innings.
After a mid-season trade sent Coulombe to Texas, he struggled down the stretch, allowing seven earned runs in 12 innings with his new team.
Coulombe will now join the Red Sox bullpen as an additional lefty option alongside closer Aroldis Chapman and opening-day hopefuls Tyler Samaniego and Jovani Morán.
