The Cleveland Guardians are getting some reinforcements in their bullpen.
Right-handed relief pitcher Paul Sewald has signed a one-year, $7 million contract to join the Guardians, the team announced Wednesday.
The contract contains a mutual option for the 2026 season.
In a corresponding move, the Guardians designated right-handed pitcher Pedro Avila for assignment in order to make room on the team's 40-man roster.
The 34-year-old Sewald spent last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks where he recorded 16 saves, 43 strikeouts and a 4.31 ERA across 39.2 innings pitched.
