The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly appear to be the “leading option” to acquire Minnesota Twins starter Jose Berrios, one of the most popular names heading into the deadline, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The Twins are believed to have been in talks with several teams regarding Berrios’ services, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
The 27-year-old right-hander, who is making $6.1 million this year, is set to become a free agent in 2023.
Over 20 starts in 2021, Berrios has a 3.48 ERA, logging 121.2 innings with a 1.044 WHIP and 126 strikeouts.
