Left-handed reliever Brad Hand and the Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly reached an agreement on a one-year, $6 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, marking the latest addition to the club's bullpen this off-season.
Hand, a three-time All-Star, split time between the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets last season in what proved to be a challenging year for the 32-year-old.
Hand posted a 3.89 ERA with the Nationals after signing a one-year, $10.5 million deal last summer, but struggled after a July trade to the Blue Jays. In 11 appearances he surrendered 10 runs in just over eight innings of work before being designated for assignment in August, at which point the Mets claimed him.
Across the totality of 2021, Hand posted a 3.90 ERA and a 21.9 per cent strikeout rate.
In Philadelphia, he joins a bullpen bolstered by the additions of Corey Knebel and right-hander Jeurys Familia earlier in the off-season.
