One of Canada's top pitchers has found a new home in the NL East.
The Atlanta Braves have added right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill, claiming him off waivers from the Miami Marlins, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday.
The righty joins the Braves on a one-year $3.5 million contract, giving Atlanta short-term depth and flexibility.
The Port Hope, Ont., native has posted a 5.50 ERA over 24 starts with the Marlins this season. However, as of late, he has struggled with an 11.25 ERA in his last three outings.
He threw the first immaculate inning of the 2025 season in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays in May.
Quantrill is expected to add depth to the Braves' bullpen as they make a push for the post-season, having won eight of their last 10 games.
Atlanta is looking for a final late-season surge and is currently 9.5 games behind a wild-card spot with a 58-69 record.
Quantrill will head to Atlanta to join the Braves as they face the Mets, before beginning a series against his now former team, Miami, on Monday.
