The Milwaukee Brewers are expected to name their bench coach, Pat Murphy, as the club's new manager, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Murphy, 64, has served as Milwaukee's bench coach since 2015 after starting his MLB coaching career with the San Diego Padres.
The Brewers were in the market for a new manager after Craig Counsell's contract expired and the longtime skipper left for a record-breaking contract with the Chicago Cubs.
Murphy served as the Padres' interim manager for 96 games in 2015, guiding San Diego to a 42-54 record.
Before moving to the MLB ranks, Murphy served as the head coach at Notre Dame and Arizona State University, where he posted a record of 947-400-2 over 22 seasons.
Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly had been connected to the managerial opening in Milwaukee. He had been given more responsibility as the team's offensive co-ordinator for 2024, but general manager Ross Atkins said the Blue Jays wouldn't stand in the way if a promotion was offered to Mattingly.
