The Toronto Blue Jays have some roles to fill in their front office.
David Bell has stepped down as Blue Jays assistant GM and vice president of baseball operations, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi confirmed Tuesday. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal was first to report the news.
“I decided to step away and reassess where I can make the greatest impact, on and off the field," Bell said to Rosenthal. "The Toronto Blue Jays are a first-class organization. I have a deep appreciation for the people I’ve worked with over the past two years.”
Bell was hired by the Blue Jays in the winter of 2024 and spent the past two seasons with the club.
His primary role with the Blue Jays was to "oversee the Player Development and Physical and Mental Performance departments, while also contributing to major league strategic planning decisions and advising on player evaluations and acquisitions."
Before joining Toronto, Bell served as manager of the Cincinnati Reds for six seasons.
Over his time with the Reds, Bell collected a 409-456 record, earning a trip to the post-season in 2020, where Cincinnati lost in the wild-card series to the Atlanta Braves.
Before getting his shot in the Reds' dugout, Bell coached in Cincinnati's minor-league system and with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. He also worked in the San Francisco Giants' front office as vice president of player development in 2018.
Over 12 seasons as a player, Bell spent time with six different teams, playing in 1403 games. He most notably served as the starting third baseman for the 2001 Seattle Mariners, who set the MLB record with 116 wins.
