The Baltimore Orioles are signing veteran pitcher Felix Hernandez to a minor-league deal, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Hernandez, who turns 35 in April, will earn $1 million if he makes the team.
After spending 15 MLB seasons with the Seattle Mariners — collecting a Cy Young, six all-star appearances and two AL ERA titles in that time — Hernandez signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves last January.
But he opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns regarding COVID-19, thus sending himself back to the open market.
Hernandez owns a career 3.42 ERA and 3.52 FIP, but those numbers have ballooned to 4.89 ERA and 5.10 FIP over his past four seasons. He has earned over $200 million in his career, which began back in 2005.
