'Tugboat' is headed toward McCovey Cove.
The San Francisco Giants are set to call up Canadian pitcher Matt Wilkinson, whose nickname is 'Tugboat,' ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on Monday.
Wilkinson, of Vancouver, was acquired by the Giants from the Cleveland Guardians in May for catcher Patrick Bailey.
The 23-year-old pitched for Canada in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
Wilkinson has also made 20 starts across both MLB clubs' minor-league systems this season, registering a 3.40 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 90 innings while allowing just 59 hits.
The left-hander played high-school baseball in Okotoks, Alta., before joining Central Arizona, a junior college. Wilkinson was then selected in the 10th round of the 2023 draft by the Guardians.
He has yet to make his MLB debut.
