Jayce Tingler will be relieved of his managerial duties by the San Diego Padres after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
The Padres were viewed as a World Series contender after general manager A.J. Preller made a big splash during the off-season, acquiring Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Keone Kela, Blake Snell and Ha-Seong Kim.
The Padres were 67-49 on Aug. 10. but fell below .500 and headed into Saturday’s game with a 78-82 record. During their slump, the team fired pitching coach Larry Rothschild.
Tingler helped guide San Diego to the post-season during the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, which was the first playoff berth for the team since 2006.
