The New York Mets are finalizing an agreement with Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general manager Jared Porter to be their new GM, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Former GM Brodie Van Wagenen and many of his top aides were fired last month shortly after hedge fund manager Steve Cohen completed his $2.4 billion purchase of the team.
New York went 26-34 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign and missed the expanded playoffs.
Porter was hired as AGM in Arizona in 2016 after working in the front office of the Chicago Cubs, with whom he won the World Series. He previously had a nine-year run with the Boston Red Sox, capturing titles in ’04, ’07 and ’13.
