The New York Mets have moved on from a quality starter.
Right-hander Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor were traded to the Chicago Cubs for infield prospect Jefferson Rojas, The New York Post's Jon Heyman first reported on Monday.
After moving across town to convert from the New York Yankees closer to a Mets rotation arm, Holmes found success starting in Queens.
The 33-year-old recorded a 3.26 ERA with 174 strikeouts and 84 walks over 40 starts with the Mets over the last one-and-a-half seasons.
He pitched to a 2.39 ERA with 45 strikeouts over 52.2 innings in nine starts to start 2026, but has been out since May 15 after suffering a fractured right fibula.
Holmes most recently pitched in a rehab start with high-A Brooklyn on July 23.
He’ll look to return from the injury and bolster the Cubs' rotation down the stretch.
Meanwhile, Taylor has been serviceable in the outfield for the Mets this season, with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and a .794 OPS over 67 games.
Rojas was the Cubs' No. 1-ranked prospect and is No. 63 on MLB Pipeline's top 100.
