Jackson Holliday is set to begin 2026 on the injured list.
Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Wednesday that the second baseman suffered a broken hamate during a live batting practice session on Feb. 6, per The Baltimore Sun's Jacob Calvin Meyer.
Elias added that Holliday will undergo surgery on Thursday and that the 22-year-old will miss Opening Day.
Holliday is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he slashed .242/.314/.375 with 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 149 games.
The No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft will play in his third MLB season once he returns to the field in 2026.
Holliday isn't the only Oriole who arrived in camp with an injury diagnosis. Fellow infielder Jordan Westburg is dealing with a right oblique injury, per Calvin Meyer.
Elias, however, said that Westburg is expected to be ready for Opening Day.
Westburg was one of Baltimore's top hitters a season ago, slugging 17 homers in 85 games and carrying a .770 OPS.
The Orioles are looking to return to the post-season after a disappointing 2025, when they finished last in the AL East with a 75-87 record.
