The Baltimore Orioles have found a new bench boss after spending most of the 2025 season with an interim manager.
Craig Albernaz, a former associate manager with the Cleveland Guardians, is nearing a deal to become the Orioles' new manager, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Sunday.
The Orioles fired previous manager Brandon Hyde in May after the team fell to 15-29 in the early goings of the season. Third-base coach Tony Mansolino stepped in as the team's interim manager for the remainder of the season.
Albernaz, 42, has been with the Guardians since the 2023 season. He was initially hired as the bench coach but was promoted to associate manager after the 2024 season.
Though he never played in the majors, the Fall River, Mass., native played nine seasons of minor-league ball with the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers. He played in five different minor-league levels.
The Orioles finished the 2025 season 75-87 and fifth in the AL East. It marked a steep fall from grace after finishing with a 91-71 record in 2024 and a 101-61 record in 2023.
