Phil Maton is reportedly headed to Texas.
The Texas Rangers are finalizing a deal to acquire the right-hander reliever from the St. Louis Cardinals for prospects Skylar Hales, Mason Molina and international signing bonus pool space, they announced Thursday.
Maton, 32, has emerged as a reliable late-game option for St. Louis in 2025, delivering a 2.35 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 38.1 innings.
He has taken a big step forward with his punchout numbers this season, thanks to a curveball, which he throws nearly 40 per cent of the time.
The nine-year MLB veteran is set to hit free agency this off-season after signing a one-year deal with St. Louis over the winter.
Maton has previously spent time with the Padres, Guardians, Astros, Rays and Mets. He also pitched in the post-season in four separate October trips, posting a 2.57 ERA in 28 innings.
