There's a new first baseman in Beantown.
The Boston Red Sox acquired Willson Contreras from the St. Louis Cardinals, the teams announced on Monday.
In return, the Cardinals received a package including right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins and minor-league hurlers Blake Aita and Yhoiker Fajardo.
Contreras, 33, made the move to first base after spending his last two seasons with St. Louis backstopping the plate.
The three-time all-star was a mainstay of the Cardinals' lineup last season, slashing .257/.344/.447 for 20 homers and 80 RBI through 490 at-bats over 135 games.
Dobbins, 25, made 13 appearances (11 starts) for the Red Sox last season, finishing with a 4-1 record as a rookie. The former eight-round pick in 2021 logged a 4.13 ERA through 61.0 innings, giving up 28 earned runs on 17 walks and 45 strikeouts.
Aita, 22, posted a 3.98 ERA across single-A and high-A in his first professional season. He was a sixth-round draft pick in 2024.
Fajardo, 19, recorded a 2.25 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 19 games across the Florida Complex League and single-A. The No. 9-ranked Red Sox prospect, per Baseball America, Fajardo came to Boston in December 2024 from the Chicago White Sox in a trade for left-hander Cam Booser.
Both Boston and St. Louis will be hoping for bounce-back campaigns after the move after missing out on the post-season. The Red Sox finished 2025 with an 89-73 record while placing third in the AL East. As for the Cardinals, they went 78-84 and were last in the NL Central.
