The Boston Red Sox are reportedly giving Kristian Campbell a chance to reset.
Boston is optioning the touted rookie to triple-A Worcester, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
After a quick start to his MLB career, Campbell has cooled off considerably in May and June. The 22-year-old entered Thursday with a full-season .223/.319/.345 slash line — a disappointing total, considering the .902 OPS he carried through the first month of the season.
The Red Sox signed Campbell to an eight-year, $60 million extension shortly after Opening Day.
Campbell was the only one of Boston's 'Big Three' prospects to start the season with the Red Sox. Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony have since joined the big-league club.
Campbell, a right-handed hitting second baseman, broke out in the minors in 2024, winning MLB Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Year and the double-A Eastern League MVP in his first full professional season.
He slashed .330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs and 24 stolen bases while suiting up in 115 games across three levels. He ended the season with a 19-game cameo at triple-A.
