The Boston Red Sox have made another big move on deadline day.
Boston is finalizing a deal to bring in left-handed reliever Erik Miller from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for infielder Marcelo Mayer, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday.
The teams confirmed the deal later in the day.
Miller, 28, should help bolster the Red Sox bullpen as they continue their second-half push for a playoff spot. In 38 appearances with the Giants this season, Miller has a 2.76 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 32.2 innings of work.
Mayer is a high price to pay, however, as the former first-round pick is still just 23 years old.
In 70 games with the Red Sox this season, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft is slashing .223/.278/.346 with seven home runs.
It's the second big deal of the day for the Red Sox, as they also acquired All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles earlier Monday.
After a disappointing start to the season, the Red Sox stormed back into the post-season picture with a 15-game winning streak last month.
Boston enters Monday's action with a 60-51 record and in the second wild-card spot in the American League.
