Once a highly touted Los Angeles Dodgers prospect, right-handed pitcher Dustin May will be getting a fresh slate.
May and the St. Louis Cardinals are in agreement on a free-agent contract, pending a physical, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Saturday.
The 28-year-old was among the youngest free agents in this year's offseason, drawing interest from multiple teams.
May spent his entire career with the Dodgers until being traded to the Boston Red Sox during last years trade deadline. In six games for the Red Sox, May had a 1-4 record.
In return, the Dodgers acquired outfielders James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard.
May’s career has been riddled with injuries, including Tommy John surgery that wiped out most of his 2021 and 2022 seasons, a UCL injury that cost him the entire 2024 season and an esophagus tear suffered while eating a salad, which required emergency surgery and nearly two weeks in the hospital.
Through seven major league seasons, May pitched 324 innings with a 3.86 ERA. He has a career record of 19-20.
