The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms with pitcher Zach Eflin on a three-year, $40-million dollar contract, Joel Sherman of the New York Post and Jeff Passan of ESPN report.
The free-agent righty held a 4.04 ERA this past season with the Philadelphia Phillies in 13 regular-season starts. He also made seven appearances out of the bullpen in September after missing most of the summer due to a right knee injury, recording a 1.17 ERA..
While with the Phillies for their World Series run, he threw 10.2 innings out of the bullpen to a 3.38 ERA.
Eflin now joins the Rays as a versatile pitcher, able to eat up innings out of the bullpen or join the rotation.
The $40-million dollar price tag is the largest amount that the Rays have spent on a free agent, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
