Alan Roden is set to go under the knife.
The Minnesota Twins outfielder, who's season ended after he was placed on the 60-day injured list on Tuesday with a sprained Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his left thumb, opted for surgery to ensure a stable timeframe of recovery, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes.
"I think surgery is the best option, just in terms of predictable outcomes and timeframe to get me back swinging," Roden told The Minnesota Star Tribune's Bobby Nightengale on Tuesday. "The way things turned out, it's a bummer for me to not be able to play the rest of the season, but you can only go forward, rehab it and then hopefully come back better than ever.”
Roden was acquired by Minnesota alongside pitching prospect Kendry Rojas from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline for Ty France and Louis Varland.
In 55 games, the 25-year-old outfielder slashed .191/.261/.294 with two home runs and nine RBIs. One homer and one RBI came with the Twins.
Roden made the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster after an impressive spring and 2024 triple-A campaign where he hit .314 with nine long balls and 48 RBIs for the Bisons.
While he struggled at the majors with both clubs, the lefty-swinging Roden continued to hit well in triple-A Buffalo, owning a .331/.423/.496 slash line in 32 games.
