The New York Yankees are calling up their No. 1 prospect.
George Lombard Jr. is being promoted to the MLB, YES Network's Jack Curry reported on Monday.
The 2023 first-round pick has risen through the minors this season and spent his last 56 games in triple-A. He slashed .268/.405/.440 with an .845 OPS and six homers for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
At double-A this season, Lombard Jr. was hitting .312/.400/.571 with a .971 OPS in 20 games before his call-up.
Lombard Jr. is primarily a shortstop but can also play third base.
The 21-year-old is the No. 20 overall prospect in baseball.
In an apparent corresponding move, the Yankees optioned right-hander Angel Chivilli, outfielder Jasson Domínguez and infielder Anthony Volpe to triple-A.
