A top trade target is off the market.
The Arizona Diamondbacks pulled star second baseman Ketel Marte from the trade block, Ken Rosenthal of the The Athletic reported on Friday.
Marte, 32, is coming off a season in which he made his third all-star appearance and won his second straight Silver Slugger. In 126 games for the D-backs, Marte hit 28 homers, drove in 72 runs and hit .283.
He was an MVP finalist in 2024, finishing third behind Shohei Ohtani and Francisco Lindor in National League balloting.
Earlier this year, Arizona signed Marte to a $116.5 million contract extension that keeps with the Diamondbacks through 2031. He will receive a full no-trade clause early next season, when he becomes a 10-and-5 player.
Despite Marte’s impressive resume in the desert, reports came out during the 2025 season that the switch-hitter can frustrate teammates and coaches in the clubhouse.
Still, Marte has clearly proven valuable to Arizona’s on-field efforts when it matters most. In 21 playoffs games with the club, he has a .974 OPS with three homers. During the Diamondbacks’ run to the World Series in 2023, Marte was named NLCS MVP for his performance in upsetting the Philadelphia Phillies.
