Detroit Tigers left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez will hit the free agent market after exercising the opt-out clause in his contract, per The New York Post's Jon Heyman and MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Rodriguez had three years and $49 million remaining in the five-year, $77 million deal he signed with the Tigers ahead of the 2022 season.
The 30-year-old southpaw put together a solid 2023, pitching to a 3.30 ERA with 143 strikeouts over 152.2 innings. He missed time early in the year with an injured finger.
An eight-year MLB veteran, Rodriguez was one of the top names available at August's trade deadline, but exercised his no-move clause to veto a deal that Detroit struck with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rodriguez won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2018 and spent the first six years of his career in Boston. He has logged a total of 1100.1 innings between his time in Detroit and Boston, owning a 4.03 ERA.
He will join Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery atop the left-handed pitching market this winter.
