A couple of American League East teams are making some moves for the stretch run.
Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is heading to the Baltimore Orioles and reliever John Schreiber is on his way to the New York Yankees, several MLB insiders reported Monday.
Both players were placed on outright waivers on Sunday — by the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, respectively — giving teams across MLB the chance to claim them. They'll be eligible for the post-season should the Yankees and Orioles secure their spots.
Robert is owed a little more than $5 million guaranteed for the remainder of the season and has a $20-million option on his contract for 2027, while Schreiber is set to become a free agent after this season.
Robert landed with the Mets in an off-season trade with the Chicago White Sox, but he has battled injuries and inconsistency in what has amounted to a disappointing campaign in Queens. Over 56 games, the seven-year MLB veteran is slashing .229/.310/.410 with 10 homers and two stolen bases.
Despite the tempered season-long line, Robert has shown some life as of late, hitting six home runs and carrying a 1.015 OPS over his last 17 games.
Schreiber, meanwhile, has a 3.65 ERA and 36 strikeouts through 49.1 innings out of Kansas City's bullpen this season.
The 32-year-old right-hander has been a consistent relief option over the past five seasons. Since 2022, he has thrown at least 45 innings in each season and has never seen his ERA climb above 3.86.
