The New York Yankees appear to have avoided the worst-case scenario with ace Gerrit Cole not having surgery on his elbow.
According to multiple reports, Cole will go with the conservative approach of resting and rehabbing his elbow after meeting with sports surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Cole is still expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks of action in order to give his elbow enough time to heal.
Cole has been experiencing issues in bouncing back following spring-training starts, and had an MRI on his right elbow.
The 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner has been durable in his career, making at least 30 starts in each of the last six full regular seasons.
The Yankees said Tuesday they have started having discussions about who could start on opening day if Cole is unavailable.
