Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Monday that superstar Shohei Ohtani will not be traded.
The 2021 MVP was seen as potentially the biggest trade chip of the offseason after he missed the MLB postseason for a fifth straight year.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale further reported that clubs had cooled down on trade talks after Ohtani put pen to paper on a one-year, $30-million deal back on Oct. 1.
Ohtani did not feature as a AL Cy Young finalist Monday night. The native of Japan was preferred by Alek Manoah of the Toronto Blue Jays, Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros and Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox
