Right-handed pitcher Shun Yamaguchi cleared release waivers and became a free agent on Tuesday night.
Yamaguchi was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on Feb. 11 after the team claimed right-hander Joel Payamps off waivers.
The 33-year-old Yamaguchi posted a 8.03 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP in 25.2 innings pitched last season for the Blue Jays.
Blue Jays pitchers and catchers report for spring training on Thursday, while the rest of the roster is due to report on Feb. 22.
