Teoscar Hernandez homers in rehab start with single-A Dunedin

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Teoscar Hernandez took another step in his recovery from an oblique injury by making a rehab start for single-A Dunedin. And the two-time Silver Slugger wasted little time before doing damage with his bat.

Hernandez drilled a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the game. He added a double in the eighth inning to finish the night 2-4 at the plate.

The Dunedin Blue Jays beat the Clearwater Threshers 3-2.

Hernandez, who started in right field in the game, is expected to play for Dunedin again Wednesday and — if things go well — could rejoin his Blue Jays teammates as soon as Thursday when they open a road trip in Cleveland.

Hernandez has been out of the lineup since April 13 with the injury. He has hit .316/.435/.526 with one home run in six games this season.
