The Detroit Tigers will not have veteran left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin available for their four-game series against the Blue Jays in Toronto this weekend.

Chafin was placed on the restricted list Thursday, suggesting he does not have the COVID-19 vaccines required to move back and forth across the border.

Right-hander Bryan Garcia has been recalled from triple-A Toledo to replace Chafin.

Chafin, 32, has pitched 32 innings across 37 appearances out of the bullpen this season, posting a 2.53 ERA with 39 strikeouts. He is a nine-year veteran who has also pitched for the Diamondbacks, Cubs and Athletics.

The Blue Jays will have Yusei Kikuchi on the mound for Thursday's season opener, while the Tigers will counter with left-hander Tyler Alexander. First pitch flies on Sportsnet and SN NOW at 7:07 p.m. ET.
