The Minnesota Twins have acquired right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray and minor league pitcher Francis Peguero from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Chase Petty.

Gray struggled through groin and rib injuries in 2021, posting a 7-9 record in 26 starts with a 4.19 ERA and 155 strikeouts in over 135 1/3 innings pitched. Gray will earn $10.2 million in 2022 and has a $12-million team option for 2023.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the Twins are still looking for more starting pitchers even after acquiring Gray from the Reds.

The Reds signed Peguero as an international free agent in 2017 and has made 74 career appearances in the minor leagues posting a 4.72 ERA 21 walks, 116 strikeouts, a 1.27 WHIP in 103.0 innings pitched.

Petty was the Twins first-round pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft and has made two appearances for the Florida Complex League Twins  allowing three runs on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched, with one walk and six strikeouts.
