After making his return to the centre field last week for the first time in 584 days, oft-injured Minnesota Twin Byron Buxton came a step away from hitting the injured list in the wurst way possible.
The Milwaukee Brewers sausage race has become a classic tradition at American Family Field, but during Tuesday's game, Buxton nearly wandered right in front of sausage No. 1 during the sprint around the park.
The second-overall pick in 2012, Buxton has had a tough time remaining healthy throughout his career and has played over 100 games just once.
Over his 10 years in the big leagues, the 30-year-old has played in 673 games, and has flashed MVP potential when healthy. He has earned MVP votes on two different occasions and was named to his first All-Star Game in 2022.
So it's safe to say that if he was run over by a bratwurst in Milwaukee, that would be cause for concern in Minnesota.
The Twins have been ravaged by injuries to open the new campaign, including the loss of star third baseman Royce Lewis, who is expected to miss multiple months with a quad injury.
They are just 2-2 to start the 2024 season after dropping Tuesday's game 3-2 against the Brewers.
Buxton went 1-for-4 in the loss and is 4-for-16 so far this year, with two doubles, three RBIs and three strikeouts.
