Yankees' Aaron Judge to be placed on IL with right calf strain

With the New York Yankees leading 4-2 in the top of the eighth, Aaron Judge launched a three-run homer against the Minnesota Twins for his first home run since returning from injury.

Aaron Judge is heading back to the injured list.

The New York Yankees star will be placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a right calf strain, the team announced on Friday.

Judge was removed from Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins with lower leg tightness. This was just his seventh game back from a lengthy absence due to a broken rib.

The reigning and three-time AL MVP is slashing .241/.360/.511 with a .871 OPS and 18 home runs in 66 games this season.

The Yankees have already clinched a post-season berth, but are chasing the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East. They sit five games behind the Rays in the standings.

Judge will not be eligible to return until game 162, the final day of the regular season.

This will mark just the third time Judge will fail to appear in 100-plus games in a season; the other two being the year he was called up to the majors and the shortened 2020 campaign.
