The New York Yankees are turning to a veteran for Game 1 of the American League Division Series.
Gerrit Cole has been named the starting pitcher by the Yankees for the first game of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Yankees started AL Cy Young favourite Cam Schlittler and Max Fried in their two-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox in the wild-card series.
Cole hasn't pitched since Sept. 23, in a win over the Rays. He pitched 5.2 innings, striking out eight while allowing three hits, two earned runs and three walks.
The former Cy Young winner pitched to a 3.61 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 22 starts this season.
Cole holds a career 2.77 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 22 playoff appearances.
