The Toronto Blue Jays are acquiring relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith has learned.
Toronto will send Arizona two players to be named in the trade.
Soria has a 1-4 record on the year. In 29.1 innings pitched, he has a 4.30 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.
The addition of the 37-year-old veteran right-hander concludes the Blue Jays’ deadline acquisitions. Toronto completed two trades on Friday, also bringing in another right-handed pitcher in Jose Berrios while sending Austin Martin and Simeon Woods-Richardson to Minnesota in return.
Over the course of the past few weeks, management has been steadily adding to the club’s bullpen — an area of great need this season — with an eye towards a post-season run. They’re currently sitting fourth in the AL East, two wins behind the third-place New York Yankees, as the Canadian club makes its long-awaited return home to Toronto for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to remain south of the border.
