The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to terms with 18 international free agents, the team announced Monday, including power-hitting Railin Tejada of the Dominican Republic.
The list of signees includes one player from Colombia, seven from the Dominican Republic, one from Nicaragua, one from Panama and eight from Venezuela.
When the signing period opened on Saturday, the Blue Jays reached an agreement with Venezuelan catcher Luis Meza, their prime target, at a deal worth slightly over $2 million.
The Blue Jays have a bonus pool of $4.644 million, a pre-determined hard cap that is allocated to teams based on market size, they can spend. This year, the pool was cut by $500,000 for the Blue Jays as part of the penalty for signing George Springer as a free agent.
