Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Julian Merryweather was lifted from Monday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with left side discomfort.

Merryweather replaced starter Alek Manoah out of the bullpen for the seventh inning and recorded two outs around an Adley Rutschman single. But his fourth batter, Kyle Stowers in his MLB debut, brought Rutschman home with an RBI double, and Merryweather was replaced by Adam Cimber.

While Merryweather didn’t appear in discomfort as he left the game, head athletic trainer Jose Julian Ministral did meet him on the mound and was seen on cameras talking to the reliever as they walked off the field together.

Merryweather entered play Monday with a 6.11 ERA in 19 appearances this season, with 16 strikeouts.
