The Toronto Blue Jays placed George Springer on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right quad strain after an MRI showed a re-aggravation of the issue that sidelined him for an extended period earlier this season.
Springer hadn’t played since Sunday, when he was lifted in the sixth inning of the club’s 7-2 win over the Atlanta Braves due to leg fatigue.
The 31-year-old made his Blue Jays debut on April 28 and served as the team’s designated hitter for four games, recording a .200 batting average with two home runs and three RBIs in 15 at-bats. The star outfielder spent the beginning of the season on the injured list as he recovered from separate oblique and quadriceps issues.
Springer signed a six-year, $150-million contract with Toronto in the off-season.
Outfielder Jonathan Davis was added to the active roster for Wednesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics in a corresponding move.
