Blue Jays place Soria on family medical emergency list, recall Castro

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Joakim Soria on the family medical emergency list, the team announced Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the team recalled Anthony Castro from triple-A and activated him for today’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

Acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Soria struggled with a finger issue shortly after joining the team. The 37-year-old has a a 5.06 ERA across 37.1 innings overall this season.

No further details about his absence were disclosed by the team at this time.

Castro, who was activated from the injured list at the start of September after dealing with nerve irritation in his right arm, has played 21.1 innings for the Blue Jays this season, striking out 29 while posting a 5.06 ERA.

The 26-year-old will be an option for the Blue Jays in the second game of their series against the Twins, which can be seen on Sportsnet, starting at 3 p.m. ET.
