Jays’ Schneider says ‘we will be better’ amid offensive rut

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider shows confidence that their offence will pick up after another struggle at the plate in their loss to the Royals.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider wants fans to be patient amidst the team’s offensive slump in the early stages of the 2024 MLB season.

After Toronto’s 6-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, dropping yet another series, Schneider was confident that their offence would eventually pick up despite struggling at the plate.

“It’s May 1, it will come. We will be better. That’s what I can say to (the fans),” Schneider said after the game.

“And I would hope that our fans trust the fact that we have really good players that they understand they’re not performing up to their expectations, and I hope they know that we will be better.”

Toronto has now scored five runs or fewer 28 times this season, the most in the league. Moreover, after their latest loss, the Blue Jays (15-17) are averaging only 3.47 runs per game with three runs or fewer in 18 of their 32 games.

The Jays are now just one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays for last place in the American League East.
